Cottonwood Camp Overnight | Fly Fishing on the Snake River

The Cottonwood Camp Overnight Fly Fishing Adventure, located one mile upstream of the South Fork Hilton, takes anglers into the heart of the South Fork Canyon for a two-day fly fishing experience on one of the premier dry fly fishing rivers in the Rocky Mountain West. Nestled against the cliffs of the South Fork Canyon in aspens and cottonwoods, the Cottonwood Camp creates a personal and quiet experience only 1 hour from Jackson Hole, Wyoming.

Your first day on the water will be spent casting to the banks and structure from the drift boat, hunting sippers and picky trout on riffles, or wading up side channels. With no time constraints, your guide will row you deep into the South Fork Canyon to reach the Cottonwood Camp where a warm comfortable fire and a mouth-watering meal are being prepared for you stream-side by the private camp chef. Complementary wine and beer are stocked at camp and appetizers and hors d’oeuvres will be waiting while the guide gets you acquainted to your own private wall tent complete with sleeping bags, cots, carpet, and wash towels.

Morning starts with coffee and juice as the chef prepares a wonderful breakfast. The second day is a long 16 miles of braided water, deep within the Canyon, giving anglers the opportunity to see all aspects of fly fishing. Floating your hopper pattern along the overhanging brush, sight casting to schools of rising trout on the gravel bars, or wading up some of the tiny side channels to catch big elusive browns are just a few examples of the diversity this river has to offer. Maybe even try your luck at the “South Fork Grand Slam” – Native Cutthroat (Yellowstone or Snake River Fine Spotted Subspecies), Rainbow, Brown Trout and Cutt-bow! Similar to the South Fork Hilton, the Cottonwood Camp Overnight is able to accommodate 8 anglers of all levels and age groups. Please make reservations early; we do not want anyone to miss one of the greatest and most unique fly fishing experiences in the Jackson Hole area.

Boat

We primarily fish out of 3 person (2 anglers and 1 guide) row boat style driftboats. The boat fishes best with 1 or 2 anglers. We suggest only adding a third person when it is child as three adults pushes the weight limits of the boat and does not provide adequate fishing to all people present. The boats all have good amounts of dry storage for your valuables and rain gear during the trip. They are very stable fishing platforms and with the built in leg-locks, there is little chance of falling into the river.
