In September the majority of Black Bears will be above timber line feeding on low bush blueberries in ankle high vegetation. Mountain Goats will normally be found in the same areas and at approximately the same altitude as Black Bears, making combination hunts possible. Access to our hunt area can range from 4-wheel drive to jet boat, canoe and foot.

Bears typically range from 6 1/2 feet to 7 1/2 feet squared, with an occasional 8 footer. Off-colored, or cinnamon bears are quite frequent in certain areas. The success rates are very good, well over 95%.

I book the goat hunts from August 1 through November 30. The early goat hunts take place primarily above timberline at elevations not exceeding 5500 feet. These hunts can be conducted either as day hunts after spot and stalk, or as pack style overnight hunts from two days or longer in length. Goat hunting is easier if heavy snow pushes the goats to lower elevations.

The Goat population in this area is very healthy. It produces billies in the 9" - 10" class. Success ratio 95%. Southeast Alaska goat hunters must choose between trophy quality or weather conditions. Earlier season hunts have better weather, but shorter- haired goats. Late season hunts for longer-haired goats have a better chance of bad weather.

Base Price is for 7 Day Hunt. Includes 2 travel days to/from Haines. Guide will take you to the shooting range and help you pack for the hunt during that time.
